Notes:
- Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian citizen to travel to space in 1984.
- Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams are Indian-born or Indian-origin astronauts who served in the United States space programme.
- Shubhanshu Shukla became the first Indian to visit the International Space Station during Axiom Mission 4 in 2025.
- Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Ajit Krishnan and Angad Pratap are astronaut-designates for Gaganyaan; selection does not necessarily mean assignment to a specific flight.
- Gaganyaan is India's human spaceflight programme. Its first uncrewed mission was targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by further uncrewed tests before the first crewed flight.
- Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams are included because of their Indian heritage, but they were American astronauts, not Indian government astronaut-designates.
